Mae West was born Mary Jane West in 1893 in good old Brooklyn. She was an actress, writer, sex goddess and one sassy broad. She’s our first Honorary Fling Girl because she was ballsy, independent and always stayed true to herself.

She called the first play she wrote “Sex” and caused a little bit of a scandal in the leading role — this was the 1920s, so women were getting rebellious and saucy but they still got in trouble for showing the same strength and passion as the fellas. No fun.

She was a Broadway star before Paramount took a chance on her and her popularity helped rescue the studio from bankruptcy. Go Mae! Her image and words made their way back into the mainstream in the 60s and 70s when women really started kicking ass and speaking their minds. Mae West is a true Fling Girl.
