We here at Fling Girl LA appreciate good music and good ladies (nothing against you fellas and the things you do, we heart you too) so we were so super psyched when we came across the Jumblequeen tumblr.
According to the website, Jumblequeen (yep, also a Bridget St. John record) “is a blog dedicated to the unsung female musicians of the late 1960′s to early 1970′s. It will feature interviews from artists themselves as well as new artists whose work has been influenced by these exceptional women of yesteryear.” Sounds awesome right? It is!
You’ll find videos and photos, history and lyrics. Some of our favs are Selda Bagcan and her video “Ince Ince” (the intro may be a little familiar to a few of you out there, even if you haven’t heard of Selma), rhythm & blues singer/guitarist Barbara Lynn, singer Madeline Bell (what a voice) and Delia Derbyshire (English electronica pioneer, she brought to life the original Doctor Who theme)… though all the ladies on the site are pretty amazing. Jumblequeen is definitely worth a visit.
We can’t wait to see who’s will be showing up in the future. (And it looks like there may even be a book down the road — excellent!)
Y Fling Girl
